About the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Initiative

The Hospitality & Tourism Steering Committee was organized in March 2005. It is lead by GWIB member for Hospitality & Tourism, Brendan Keegan executive vice president of HR at Marriot International, and committee co-chairs, Tom Hall, president, The Thomas H. Hall Company and former executive with Six Flags Inc., and Tom Warren, regional director operations, Morrison Healthcare Food Services.

More than 70 leaders from business, government, education and non-profit organizations serve on the steering committee. The mission of the initiative is

"to provide continual and strategic industry leadership in education, employment and economic development that will result in a qualified and available workforce to meet the current and future needs of Maryland's hospitality and tourism industry."

The steering committee completed its industry research, published an industry monograph, conducted its industry workforce summit and is currently working on a plan of action to implement the recommendations that address the industry's workforce issues.
